American University Settlement Approved

On May 7, 2024 Judge Christopher R. Cooper of the United States District Court for the District of Columbia granted final approval of the $5.4 million class action settlement in Qureshi v. American University. Bursor & Fisher filed the lawsuit in 2020 alleging that students at American University in Spring Semester 2020 were entitled to a partial refund of tuition as a result of the move to a fully remote education during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The settlement followed more than four years of litigation, and provides thousands of students with a partial refund of their Spring 2020 tuition.

“The settlement is a tremendous victory for these students,” said Sarah N. Westcot, one of the firm’s partners handling the matter.
