Class Certification Granted in Maytag Washing Machine Class Action
On December 20, 2017, Judge Kevin McNulty of the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey granted a motion to certify a multi-state class of purchasers of Maytag Centennial MVWC6ESW** and MVWC7ESW** model washing machines that were mislabeled as a result of disqualification from the federal Energy Star program. Judge McNulty also appointed Bursor & Fisher, P.A. as class counsel to represent the class.
“Judge McNulty’s order certifying the class is a significant development in this case, allowing purchasers of these mislabeled washing machines to join together to prosecute this action,” said Neal Deckant, one of the firm’s attorneys handling the matter. “We look forward to moving this case toward trial, where we will prove that the Whirlpool Corporation violated state law by misrepresenting the energy efficiency of these washing machines.”
