Payment Sent to Western Digital Class Members
On June 15, 2022, payments were sent to class members as part of the $5.7 million settlement in Malone, et al. v. Western Digital Corporation. The settlement was approved by Judge Nathaniel P. Cousins of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California on December 22, 2021. After a pro-rata upward adjustment, class members who submitted claims will receive approximately $56 per claim. Further, Western Digital agreed to prominently advertise and disclose that its WD Red hard drives use Shingled Magnetic Recording (“SMR”) technology.
“We are thrilled that the settlement proceeds are being distributed,” said Yitzchak Kopel, one of the firm’s partners handling the matter. “This is a terrific result that will put real money into the pockets of Western Digital customers and ensure that future purchasers of these hard drives understand exactly what they are purchasing.”
