Sarah N. Westcot is the Managing Partner of Bursor & Fisher’s Miami office. She focuses her practice on consumer class actions, complex business litigation, and mass torts.
Sarah has represented clients in a wide array of civil litigation, and has substantial trial and appellate experience in both federal and state court. She served as trial counsel with Scott A. Bursor in Ayyad v. Sprint Spectrum L.P., and helped to win a jury verdict defeating Sprint’s $1.06 billion counterclaim and securing the class’s recovery of more than $275 million in cash and debt relief.
Sarah also has significant experience in high-profile, multidistrict litigations. She currently serves on the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in In re Zantac (Ranitidine) Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2924 (S.D. FL). She also serves on the Plaintiffs’ Executive Committee in In re Apple Inc. App Store Simulated Casino-Style Games Litigation, MDL No. 2985 (N.D. Cal.) and In Re: Google Play Store Simulated Casino-Style Games Litigation, MDL No. 3001 (N.D. Cal.).
Sarah is admitted to the state bars of California and Florida, the bars of the United States District Courts for the Northern, Central, Southern, and Eastern Districts of California, the United States District Courts for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida, and the bars of the United States Courts of Appeals for the Second, Eighth, and Ninth Circuits.
Sarah earned her Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Florida. She received her Juris Doctor from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 2009. During law school, Sarah clerked with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office in Chicago and the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office in San Jose, CA, gaining early trial experience in both roles.
Sarah is a member of The National Trial Lawyers Top 100 Civil Plaintiff Lawyers, and was selected to The National Trial Lawyers Top 40 Under 40 Civil Plaintiff Lawyers for 2022.
Representative Cases
- Ayyad v. Sprint Spectrum (Alameda County Superior Court) – Sarah served as trial counsel in a month-long jury trial, prevailing on claims challenging Sprint’s early termination fees. She helped to win a jury verdict defeating Sprint’s $1.06 billion counterclaim and securing the class’s recovery of more than $275 million in cash and debt relief.
- In re Zantac (Ranitidine) Products Liability Litigation, MDL 2924 (USDC Southern District of Florida) – Sarah currently serves on the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in this multi-district litigation involving thousands of individual personal injury and classwide economic loss claims arising from FDA’s mandated withdrawal of all Zantac and ranitidine drugs from the U.S. market. The drug withdrawal came as part of the FDA’s ongoing investigation of a contaminant known as N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) in ranitidine medications.
- In re Apple Inc. App Store Simulated Casino-Style Games Litigation, MDL No. 2985 (USDC Northern District of California) – Sarah currently serves on the Plaintiffs’ Executive Committee in this multi-district litigation (MDL) challenging Apple’s involvement in allegedly illegal casino-style gambling apps.
- In Re: Google Play Store Simulated Casino-Style Games Litigation, MDL No. 3001 (USDC Northern District of California) – Sarah currently serves on the Plaintiffs’ Executive Committee in this multi-district litigation (MDL) challenging Google’s involvement in allegedly illegal casino-style gambling apps.
